Recently, news surfaced noting that boxing star Manny Pacquiao is set to run for the presidency of the Philippines. 42-year-old Pacquiao was reportedly nominated by a candidate in the faction of the ruling party, PDP-Laban. Currently, Manny is a senator in the Philippines parliament, so his possible transition into the presidency could be a smooth one.
Pacquaio made a pledge against corruption and poverty and called out corrupt officials from the Philippine government, saying they “are nearing imprisonment.”
Pacquiao went on to say, “Your time is up! We gave you a chance, but you failed us. We waited for a long time, decades have passed, but nothing happened.” As of now, Manny has not chosen a running mate, but the PDP-Laban gave the boxer the choice of who will be his Vice President and on his senatorial slate. Stay tuned for more updates.
